About The Reykjanes Landscape Photography Tour

Reykjanes peninsula has many great photographic opportunities. Its rugged and wild landscape is perfect for dramatic pictures in any kind of weather and season. From volcanic craters and caves, geothermal hot-spots to bird cliffs and lighthouses, it´s an area in an immediate distance from Reykjavik, yet it has the charm of remote highlands.

Focus of the tour is photography. While on tour I will provide help with setting up the camera, choosing composition and other technical elements. At the end of the tour, we go through the photos where I will show you my techniques to do post processing using Photoshop or Lightroom. After an amazing day full of experiences, we head back to Reykjavik.

Depending on the weather, tides, road conditions, we proceed through the highlights of the tour. I plan every trip individually, depending on needs and wishes. So if there is something in particular that interests you, please let me know in advance.

The following are just a few highlights of the tour. Mind, that as light plays a major part in photography, so places we stop to shoot can vary depending on where is the best light and skies.

Krýsivíkurbjarg: these are one of the great bird cliffs in Iceland. A place that is not widely popular due to location and accessibility, however, it´s very beautiful, especially in the summer and serves as a playground for landscape photographers.

Trölladyngja: it is a 275 meters high palagonite mountain and is located in the center of Reykjanes peninsula. Its surrounding area is part of the Krýsuvík Geothermal Area and you can clearly see how geothermal activity shaped its slopes and valleys. The whole scene is full of colors and a great place to stop by and take some awesome shots.

Kleifarvatn: it is a large lake laying between volcanic mountains. The area is full of interesting lava structures, as well as active geothermal area and other landmarks. Road that goes along side lake is very scenic itself.

Reykjanestá: the very tip of the peninsula is called Reykjanestá and is the most South-western tip of Iceland. Nearby sea cliffs look very alien and are one of the most interesting rock formations in Iceland. Nearby is a Valahnjúkur hill, from which you can see surrounding are including Eldey island.

Stranðarkirkja: 12th-century church built on the shores of Reykjanes. In certain situations is a great place to stop by and take a picture.

Sand dunes near Eyrarbakki: sand dunes are not a common scene on beaches of Iceland. Under right conditions, these dunes are spectacular for landscape photography.

Iceland has been called a photographers´ paradise by many. And there´s a good reason for it as it offers so many dramatic and scenic landscapes. I have traveled all around this beautiful island not only to capture the most prominent landmarks but also to look for places that are still largely ''undiscovered'', hence having an additional unique aura surrounding them.

While I like to share my knowledge of Iceland, its culture and traditions, focus is primary on photography - from framing the shot, till post processing in Photoshop and other software.

''It´s a photographers paradise''. You might have heard this before about Iceland. Well, I certainly have. But is it really? And if it is, what exactly it is people are referring to when they say that there is no place better to take a landscape photo than here, in Iceland?
