About The Reykjavik Art Walk

Come for a walk and get a crash course in Icelandic art history and contemporary trends in the Icelandic art world!

We start at one of the most well-known landmarks in downtown Reykjavik where we talk a bit about its design and the statue of Leifur Eiríksson. Then we go over to the sculpture garden of Einar Jónsson, Iceland´s first sculptor, where we give a brief introduction to Icelandic art history and of course Einar himself, who was an absolutely amazing character with so many original ideas and considerable influence on the visual arts in Iceland.

We visit a contemporary art gallery. The gallery we visit will depend on what is being exhibited and on what we think is the best option for you to know.

The walk ends at Freyja’s art space, which is usually very experimental and a lot of fun to visit since it’s in her grandmother’s basement. We will have time to talk about what we saw and about any other topics of your interest.

We give you information and show you places that you would otherwise not find or know of. The Art Walk is based on our own research about Icelandic art history, but there is also some more from us so all together gives you an authentic view of Icelandic culture and art.

The Art Walk is ever changing as we want to keep it as up to date as possible so if something is going on that we feel you need to see and hear about we will take you there.
