About The Icelandic Nature, Authentic Local Life And Traditional Food Experience

We start with a nature walk in the peaceful outskirt of Mosfellsbaer often called “the green town” as it is surrounded by beautiful mountains and valleys, clean streams and rivers.

In small groups we go for a recreational walk on a rugged trail for about 90 minutes through raw Icelandic nature. We walk through an area of geothermal history and intrigue geologic terrain. You will have the chance to sit down in the nature and enjoy the view, taste on fresh Icelandic natural spring water and feel the breeze in the air.

After the walk we visit my small home where I will serve you all sorts of traditional Icelandic treats as homemade pastry (pönnukökur and kleinur), jam, cookies, smoked salmon on rye bread as well as coffee, tea or hot chocolate.

If you come during Christmas time you will experience the way Icelanders celebrate this holiday in an authentic Icelandic home. I will tell you about Icelandic Christmas traditions, like the thirteen Yule Lads, and you will have the chance to get smákökur, traditional Icelandic Christmas cookies, together with other pastry.

I believe in eco-tourism and I think my surroundings are the right place to experience tranquility while getting the chance to meet with authentic Icelandic local life.

Reviews

“Local history, lovely hike and delicious Icelandic fare”

Anna, our lovely host, took us on a gentle hike through a beautiful landscape of flowers, hills and waterfalls. She told us about the natural history of the area and Mosfellsbaer's geothermal energy production. We were treated to a wonderful array of Icelandic foods afterwards, including pancakes and smoked salmon. Quite a treat!

"Choose Anna for a great local experience"

I loved meeting Anna and her family in Mosfellsbær for a slice of day-to-day Icelandic life. They know the hiking area around their house really well, and have lots of information to share about local history and culture.

There's also a beautiful hidden waterfall which you'd never see without a local guide. When I went it had been snowing heavily, and Anna's son was kind enough to walk ahead and break the snow, which made the going a lot safer and easier. Hiking off-track in the mountains in thigh-deep snow when you don't know the area can be quite dangerous, so I was very glad to be with such enthusiastic and knowledgeable guides. Anna also laid on an amazing lunch for me, which was a delight. I particular suggest you ask her for her Icelandic pancakes!

There's also a drop-dead-gorgeous border collie called Dolci, who is a definite VIP to meet!"

“A perfect slow walk in nature"

Wonderful Icelandic nature experience and after that a visit to a genuine afternoon tea in Icelandic way.

Anna really takes good care of her guests and she is so attentive and totally in the moment. The refreshments were delicious and the surprises during the walk were delightful. This is a great way to really experience Iceland as Icelanders do.

"A wonderful opportunity to discover a little bit of the 'real' Iceland"

The organisation of the experience was very thorough. As a complete stranger, I felt very well informed.

The whole experience was really enjoyable. My guide Anna took me on a very interesting walk in her neighborhood, pointing out interesting sights, followed by cooking Icelandic delicacies back at her house. A great way of discovering what really goes on in Iceland, through food, walking and chatting. Would recommend highly.
